open post -- makker's wheel
Jan. 4th, 2025 08:02 pm"Well, Jes, you've done it again, you handsome son of a bitch."
Jesper grins as he looks around the mansion's game room. He's done up in his best flash -- a green and yellow checked waistcoat over a purple shirt, his hat cocked on his head at a rakish angle, his pearl-handed revolvers at his hips where they belong. Dressed for a day in the Barrel getting into trouble, a pursuit he has sorely missed.
Not that he's sorry for the tutor and the Fabrikator lessons and the servants and the fancy breakfasts and the kissing in the park and the market speculation (Wylan is still convinced that little doses of risk will do something other than make Jesper love risk even more, or that playing the stocks with Wylan's money will somehow keep his worst impulses in check). Obviously he loves that stuff. It's great. He loves not nearly getting killed on the regular and losing his shirt at cards and being told what to do by Kaz Brekker. Great, incredible. But it's boring.
This isn't boring. Jesper saunters around the room, inspecting the billiards table and the pinball machine and the weird little box hooked up to a bigger weird box, and an even bigger weird thing that's sort of like a platform with arrows on it and a deformed slot machine in front of it. Inexplicable! Interesting! A good place for a bachelor party, possibly, which is on the nose, but Jesper's not complaining.
The only thing missing is other players.
In the meantime, Jesper starts fiddling with the pinball machine -- that doesn't take long to figure out.
